Background :
For over 10 years, landlord, Isaac Pollack has broken NYS law by refusing to provide a super to the tenants at 104/ 110 Empire Blvd in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. This has meant living with filthy hallways, roaches, mice, bedbugs, and without repairs . Particularly Black tenants at 104/110 Empire Blvd have also been falsely taken to court, endured racist slurs or had the police and NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) fraudulently called on them simply attending tenant meetings.
One Caribbean family that lives on the 1st floor at 104 Empire, has not had a working stove or fridge since 2016. Isaac Pollack is infamous for not replacing appliances and/ or recycling badly used appliances among tenants. So ten years ago, the family was forced to purchase their own new stove and fridge . But in 2016, the stove and fridge they purchased began to break down. Again when the family asked Isaac Pollack to replace the appliances, Pollack said he would only provide new appliances if the family took a rent increase which they can not afford. By law, because Isaac Pollack has illegally denied the tenants of 104 / 110 Empire Blvd access to a super and services , they are in fact entitled to rent reductions.
