Over the last 5 years, Brooklyn Equities has bought several historically rent-stabilized buildings and immediately began to harass long-time tenants in an effort to force them out. Tenant harassment has included the lack of extermination and repairs along with receiving 30-day notices to vacate their apartments or being taken to court for non-payment after their rent checks had been returned or remain uncashed. For every long-time tenant they force out, Brooklyn Equities lures a new tenant into the building that they then illegally overcharge for a historically rent-stabilized apartment.

Currently, Brooklyn Equities is advertising “luxury” rentals at 645 Ocean Ave starting at $3K. Meanwhile, there is a multi-generational Latinx family who has lived in the building for over 30 years, currently living in unsafe conditions due to the lack of repairs and extermination.
